And a recent study by Preply found just how expensive ice cream is in America's top 50 vacation spots, in addition to the most popular flavors. Given that these are vacation spots, the prices might be higher than other cities in the state.
In Philadelphia, the vacation spot chosen for Pennsylvania, the average price for a scoop of ice cream is $5.35, topping the list. The bill for a family of four, each getting two scoops, would be over $42. To no surprise, coming in directly behind Philly, is New York City, where the average scoop is $5, and the favorite ice cream flavor is strawberry.
The two most affordable ice cream scoops can be found in the Midwest. In Sandusky, Ohio, a scoop will only set you back $3.50. With Ohio's state tree being the buckeye, there's no wonder the favorite flavor of ice cream is the chocolate and peanut butter-filled buckeye.
The most popular ice cream flavors among all the cities are butter pecan and vanilla. And other popular regional flavors, like buckeye, include Michigan's Superman, Wisconsin's Blue Moon, and Oregon's marionberry.
Green tea ice cream lovers should visit Anchorage, Alaska, or Park City, Utah, where green tea is the favorite flavor. Mango is the flavor of choice in Honolulu, and Moose Tracks tops the list in Chicago.
